Nominierungen für den GUE/NGL-Whistleblower-Preis für Journalist*innen, Hinweisgeber*innen und Verteidiger*innen des Rechts auf Information
Call for Nominations – 2019 GUE/NGL Award for Journalists, Whistleblowers and Defenders of the Right to Information
Nominierungen können noch bis zum 1. März 2019 per E-Mail eingereicht werden.
Die Linksfraktion GUE/NGL freut sich, unseren zweiten jährlichen Preis für „Journalist*innen, Whistleblower*innen und Verteidiger*innen des Rechts auf Information“ bekannt zu geben. Der Preis wurde 2018 zu Ehren der ermordeten maltesischen Journalistin Daphne Caruana Galizia ins Leben gerufen. Im letzten Jahr wurdend er ermordete slowakische Journalist Ján Kuciak und der Whistleblower Raphaël Halet von LuxLeaks ausgezeichnet.
Der diesjährige Preis wird wieder Personen oder Gruppen ehren, die eingeschüchtert und/oder verfolgt wurden, weil sie die Wahrheit aufgedeckt und der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht haben. Die Gewinner erhalten 5.000 €, die dazu beitragen werden, ihre Ermittlungsarbeit zu unterstützen und zu verbreiten, um die Pressefreiheit und das Recht auf Information zu schützen und zu fördern – insbesondere innerhalb der Europäischen Union, die noch keinen ausreichenden gesetzlichen Schutz für Whistleblower bietet.
Nominierungen sind möglich bis zum 1. März 2019 bis 23.59 Uhr MEZ und können per E-Mail an guengl.press@europarl.europa.eu eingereicht werden. Es werden nur nominierte Kandidat*innen mit Arbeitsbeispielen oder ausreichenden Informationen (erläuternde Dokumente, Pressedokumente, audiovisuelles Material) berücksichtigt. Eine Jury aus Journalist*innen, Whistleblower*innn und GUE/NGL-Abgeordneten wird die Nominierungen beraten und die finale Listeam 15. März 2019 bekannt geben. GUE/NGL has the pleasure of announcing our second annual Award for ‘Journalists, Whistleblowers and Defenders of the Right to Information’. The award was established in 2018 in honour of the assassinated Maltese journalist, Daphne Caruana Galizia, and last year it was jointly awarded to the murdered Slovak journalist, Ján Kuciak and LuxLeaks whistleblower, Raphaël Halet.
This year’s award will again honour individuals or groups who have been intimidated and/or persecuted for uncovering the truth and exposing it to the public. The winner(s) will also receive €5000 which will help to support and disseminate their investigative work in an effort to safeguard and promote the freedom of press and the right to information – especially inside the European Union which still does not offer adequate legislative protection for such work.
Nominations are opened until 23h59 CET on 1st March 2019 and can be submitted by email to guengl.press@europarl.europa.eu. Only eligible nominees with examples of work or sufficient information (explanatory documents, press documents, audiovisual material) will be considered.
A jury of journalists, whistleblowers and GUE/NGL MEPs will deliberate over the nominations and announce the shortlist on 15th March 2019. The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday 16th April at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
