Druck auf Teheran zeigt Wirkung: Sotoudeh darf ins Krankenhaus

Nach anhaltendem internationalen Druck durfte die inhaftierte Menschenrechtsanwältin Nasrin Sotoudeh am Samstag das Gefängnis verlassen um medizinische Behandlung zu erhalten. Ihr Gesundheitszustand gibt weiterhin Anlass zur Sorge. Cornelia Ernst, Vorsitzende der Iran-Delegation des Europaparlaments, kommentiert die Situation:

 
„Ich bin sehr erleichtert, dass Nasrin Sotoudeh nun endlich die medizinische Versorgung erhält, die ihr Zustand seit geraumer Zeit erfordert. Es ist ein gutes Signal, dass der Druck durch NGOs und internationale Politik Wirkung zeigt und es die Verantwortlichen in Teheran in diesem Fall nicht aufs Äußerste ankommen lassen. Doch darf dieses Zugeständnis – was eigentlich eine Selbstverständlichkeit sein müsste – nicht darüber hinwegtäuschen, dass der Zustand von Frau Sotoudeh nach wie vor kritisch ist, dass die iranischen Behörden eigentlich viel zu spät gehandelt haben und dass dieser Krankenhausaufenthalt nur eine temporäre Unterbrechung ihrer Haft sein soll.“

„Dennoch freue ich mich für Nasrin Sotoudeh und ihre Angehörigen, dass ihr Anliegen endlich gehört wurde. Ich wünsche Frau Sotoudeh einen möglichst umfassenden Genesungsprozess und trete dafür ein, dass die iranische Führung allen Inhaftierten die nötige medizinische Versorgung gewährt und politische Gefangene nicht länger mit willkürlich konstruierten Vorwürfen in Gefängniszellen eingesperrt hält.“

Pressure on Tehran is having an effect: Sotoudeh is allowed to go to hospital

After sustained international pressure, incarcerated human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh was allowed to leave the prison on Saturday for medical treatment. Her state of health continues to give cause for concern. Cornelia Ernst, Chair of the European Parliament’s Iran Delegation, comments on the situation:

“I am very relieved that Nasrin Sotoudeh is finally receiving the medical care that her condition has required for a long time. It is a good signal that the pressure from NGOs and international politics is having an effect and that those responsible in Tehran are not going to let it go to the extreme in this case. However, this admission, which should actually be taken for granted, must not hide the fact that Ms. Sotoudeh’s condition is still worrying, that the Iranian authorities actually acted much too late and that this hospital stay is only intended to be a temporary break in her detention.“

“Nevertheless, I am happy for Nasrin Sotoudeh and her relatives that their concerns have finally been heard. I wish Ms. Sotoudeh the fullest possible recovery process and advocate that the Iranian leadership provides all detainees with the necessary medical care and that political prisoners are no longer locked up in prison cells with arbitrarily constructed allegations.“
