GUE/NGL statement on terrorist attack in Finland

GUE/NGL

GUE/NGL strongly condemns the terrorist attack in the Finnish city of Turku on Friday. We find deplorable the way in which innocent people were harmed, and are particularly disturbed by police reports that women had been deliberately targeted in this attack.

As flags are being flown at half-mast across Finland today, we mourn with the nation and send our heartfelt condolences to all the victims and their families.

Once again, Europe is having to grieve for its dead. However, we must not allow terrorists who sow hatred to come between us. That is their ultimate aim –  but terrorism will never prevail.
