Parlamentarierappell gegen HADEP-Verbot
Mit einem von mehr als 50 Europaparlamentariern unterzeichneten Appell hat sich heute die PDS-Abgeordnete Feleknas Uca an den Präsidenten der Türkischen Nationalversammlung gewandt, um gegen das Verbot der HADEP zu protestieren. Sie erklärt:
Unser fraktionsübergreifender Protest richtet sich gegen die in der Türkei weiterhin vorherrschende Praxis, demokratische Parteien wie die HADEP zu verbieten. Wir protestieren gegen die auferlegten Verbote politischer Betätigung für ihre führenden Mitglieder und fordern eine sofortige Aufhebung der Gerichtsentscheidung.
Wir betrachten diese Gerichtsentscheidung als einen Schritt, der die Türkei weiter von der EU entfernt, und fordern die Türkei auf, gemäß den Kopenhagener Kriterien für einen EU-Beitritt endlich Rechtsstaatlichkeit und Demokratie in der Türkei zu verankern.

Your Excellency,
with great concern we have taken note of the March 13 ruling of the Turkish Constitutional Court to outlaw the People´s Democracy Party (HADEP) and to bar its leading members from any form of political activity for five years to come. We strongly reject the Court´s decision and call for its immediate reversal.
The outlawing of HADEP and the barring of its leading members from political activity can only be regarded as Turkey taking further steps away from the European Union. The Court´s decision is in defiance of basic rights like the right to freedom of expression as set forth in the European Convention on Human Rights which Turkey has ratified, as well as in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
If Turkey is to become a member of the European Union it will only be possible on the basis of adhering to the Copenhagen criteria among which is the fulfillment of the principles of democracy and human rights. We call upon you to take all necessary steps to ensure that these principles will finally be fulfilled by Turkey.
