The murdered Slovak journalist JĂĄn Kuciak and LuxLeaks whistleblower RaphaĂ«l Halet have been named the first recipients of the inaugural GUE/NGL award for âJournalists, Whistleblowers and Defenders of the Right to Informationâ.
Named in honour of the late Maltese journalist, Daphne Caruana Galizia, the two have been jointly awarded for their work and their courage in exposing corruption and wrongdoing by the powerful.

The shortlist for the inaugural GUE/NGL Award for âJournalists, Whistleblowers and Defenders of the Right to Informationâ has been unveiled.
Dedicated to individuals or groups who have been intimidated and/or persecuted for uncovering the truth and exposing it to the public, this yearâs award is named in honour of the late Maltese journalist, Daphne Caruana Galizia.
The winner(s) will be announced at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday 29th May 2018.

The North of Ireland must be granted special designated status post-Brexit, according to a new study launched today by GUE/NGL.

Authored by Dr Nikos Skoutaris, a senior lecturer on EU law at the University of East Anglia in Britain, the report underlines that given the Northâs special and unique circumstances, it is critical that it remains as part of the EU after Brexit.

A statement by a cross-party group of MEPs in support of the Malta corruption whistleblower, Maria Efimova, who - in fear for her own safety after arrest warrants were issued by Malta and Cyprus - handed herself in to Greek police on Monday night in Athens. She could be deported to Malta if the Greek authorities do not grant her asylum.
